How Shamans Treat Food
Over the years, I’ve found that reconnecting with nature has transformed not only my spiritual life but also my relationship with food. Through learning from tribal practices and ancient wisdom, I’ve come to appreciate the abundance and gifts that nature provides us in a deeper way. And this shift in perspective has led me to a more nourishing relationship with food—one that truly supports and nurtures my body.

Every meal is a gift
One of the first principles I’ve embraced is eating with gratitude. Every meal is a gift, and by acknowledging the effort and energy that went into providing that food, I feel a deeper connection to the Earth. I now make it a practice to thank the food before I eat, whether it’s a fruit, vegetable, or something more elaborate. This simple act of gratitude has made me more mindful of what I put into my body and how I honor the life force that sustains me.
What if this was your last meal
Another key shift has been to be more present when I eat. Imagine the coffee and cake you are about to have is the last one you will ever have… immediately you will focus on enjoying every bite, feeling the textures, flavors, and nourishment. This presence not only makes meals more enjoyable, but it also helps my body absorb the nutrients more effectively. By not rushing through my meals, I’ve learned to savor the experience and truly appreciate what I’m consuming.
"Thank you, Earth, for this food and the abundance you provide. May this nourishment fuel my body and spirit, and may I honor the life that sustains me. I am grateful."
Energy plays a huge role in this process as well. I’ve learned from tribal wisdom that we must give food the right energy—whether it’s the energy we bring to the preparation, the care we take in choosing the ingredients, or the intention we set while eating. Only then can food nourish us fully, both physically and spiritually.
In my journey, I’ve also come to understand that balance is key. For a shaman, a plant is as alive as an animal, and every being, whether it’s a carrot or a pig, carries its own spirit and energy. It’s taught me to approach my diet with respect, incorporating a wide variety of foods in a balanced way. By focusing on what makes me feel good and nourished, I’ve learned to trust my body’s needs rather than following trends or external expectations.

Finally, I’ve learned to give myself the best—not just in terms of the quality of food, but also in how I approach my meals. Choosing foods that are fresh, whole, and organic has become my norm because I’ve realized that the energy I put into choosing my food directly affects how I feel afterward.
Through this process of reconnecting with nature, expressing gratitude, and learning from tribal practices, I’ve found that not only does the food I eat nourish my body, but it also nurtures my soul. This new approach has led me to a deeper sense of appreciation for the Earth and all it provides—and I’m more connected to the food I eat than ever before.
